San Francisco BART & Caltrain
There are two main mass transit options in the San Francisco Bay Area. Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) is a rapid transit system that connects San Francisco with Alameda and Contra Costa Counties to the east and San Mateo County and San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to the south. Caltrain connects 30 cities between San Francisco and Gilroy. Most Caltrain stations provide parking and bicycle access.

The Millbrae BART station is only one mile from the Best Western El Rancho Inn. Trains take passengers to San Francisco International Airport as well as to downtown San Francisco. It also makes many stops in the East Bay, including Oakland, Berkeley, Richmond, Pleasant, Walnut Creek, and Fremont. Parking is available for a $1.00 daily fee. San Francisco BART Service Hours.
Service is provided every day until midnight. On weekdays, BART begins running trains at 4:00 a.m. That times moves ahead to 6:00 a.m. on Saturdays and 8:00 a.m. on Sundays.
San Francisco BART Tickets.
Only children four-years-old and under are able to ride BART for free. Everyone else must have a ticket. BART tickets are similar to debit cards with stored value. You can purchase your ticket at all stations, which feature automatic ticket vending machines. Coins and $1 $5, $10 and $20 bills are accepted. Certain machines will take credit and debit cards.
Millbrae, San Francisco Caltrain Station.
The Millbrae Caltrain Station is just two miles from the Best Western El Rancho Inn. Northbound trains take passengers to San Bruno, South San Francisco, and San Francisco while southbound trains stop in such cities as Menlo Park, Palo Alto, San Jose, and Gilroy. In addition, there is a connection to BART. The Millbrae Caltrain Station features bicycle lockers, a shuttle connection for most trains, ticket vending machines, parking, and public telephone. San Francisco Caltrain Special Service.
Caltrain's Baby Bullet express service during commute hours features fewer stops, allowing passengers to travel between San Francisco and San Jose in under an hour. On Saturday and Sunday, there is hourly local service, which stops at all stations from San Francisco to San Jose. A shuttle bus operates between the San Jose and Tamien stations. Caltrain follows its Sunday schedule on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

Caltrain is a proof-of-purchase system. That means that tickets must be purchased before boarding any train. Plus, they must be shown to a conductor upon request. Any passenger without a valid ticket may be fined.
